Driving up north from Kuala Lumpur to explore the culinary wonders of Penang, I stopped over to check out the famous city of Ipoh. On a quick recommendation by one of my friends checked into Kinta Riverfront and Suites and found it to be quality accommodation very close to the heart of the city. Ipoh has remnants of an old colonial town. The booming tin industry in the 20th century attracted investors and the population grew rapidly.
The city has some interesting buildings dating back to the early 20th century. Driving around the city you will notice a mix of the old colonial building as well as new architecture.
Greentown area in Ipoh is popular for hawker food, trendy bars and one of the nicest spot I visit called Healy's Mac Irish Bar. The ambience is great over the weekend with live music, a crowded floor and plenty. Located around the corner the location is great and the sitting space faces the street.
Check out their Facebook website to keep an eye on the upcoming events.
To dance the night away I headed to SOS. It was like finding an oasis in the middle of the desert. Buy yourself a set of Guinness for RM 50 and you will land in a magical paradise with great music, live performances and a very lively and hip crowd.
The scene stays on till the early hours of the day. I was quite hungry after hours of dancing and headed to the local Mamak near Kinta Riverfront that stays open till 4. Finished the night off with fried chicken and rice. Really enjoyed my 12 hours in Ipoh.
On my way back from Penang I booked into Kinta Riverfront and played it all over again. This time we headed to hot spas at Hidden World of Tambun which are open till midnight. Buy your way in with RM RM 20 and you can enjoy dips in hot spaces for as longs as you want.
Great experience if you want to relax.
